Kalonji under fire for addressing return to music while mourning gf

Many social media users are angry at Trinibad artiste Kalonji Arthur, 25, who recently survived an attack against his life.

Kalonji spent time hospitalised after the incident which occurred in the car park of The Brix Autograph Collection on September 2.

He was shot by two armed assailants and managed to escape with his life, though he required surgery. His girlfriend, 25-year-old Bridget James, was not so lucky. Sadly, the young auditor died at the hospital. It all happened the day after she celebrated her birthday with Kalonji. 

Following the brutal attack which was captured on CCTV footage, the singer remained quiet. However, on Saturday, 15 days later, he released a statement on the Facebook page Kalonji Muzic. 

In the post, which included photos of himself and Bridget, Kalonji apologised to her family members. He thanked God for his mental health and expressed a desire to resume making music soon.

The post rubbed some people the wrong way with many labelling it inappropriate.

One user whose response had over 800 likes said: “This is so disgusting..how much did she mean to you??? It’s giving “sorry it happened, glad it wasn’t me, back to business” like how disgusting…”

Another said: “Absolutely no respect for the life that was lost. Making the tragic loss of an innocent life that was full of potential all about him and in the same breath promoting his music? The same music that promotes gun violence and killing, the same reason gangsters felt the need to attack him and take the life of the young lady instead. If he wanted to address his fans and promote his music, he
should’ve done that separately on a post that doesn’t share her image, better than that.”

However, some people came to his defence.

One of them said: “The lynch mob out in full force..u would think that he killed the young lady…keep strong sir, u were given another chance to do the lords work..sing some gospel music”.

Another said: “I wish alyuh could tell people how to grieve and how to feel!! This man now lost his girlfriend and he was right there to witness her death, he’s traumatized and maybe this is the most he can say. Let the man grieve in his own way.”
